Cloud Computing

If you have spent any time looking at information technology services you have probably seen the term Cloud Computing a thousand times over.   Just like Web 2.0 and Information Superhighway, it is the newest vogue label to enter (and perhaps go from) the marketing lexicon.  Frankly, we feel it is already getting a bit dated.

That is not to say that Cloud Computing is not important – in fact just the opposite.  Cloud Computing is a broad designation encompassing a thousand different technologies, but they all have the same handful of goals: reliability, data security, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.  The technical nuances of this platform and that platform are the stuff we deal with as engineers.  As a business owner or manager, all you need to know is that the purpose of cloud computing is to make your technology invisible.  To borrow a term from Apple: with cloud computing, it just works.

That is the marketing spin.  What does all of that mean for a real business in the real world?

The recession has been difficult for small and large businesses everywhere.  Almost everyone has had to cut costs somewhere or at least delay future plans.  A lot of good ideas have come and gone without a budget to realize them.  Slowly, that is starting to change.  The general opinion seems to be that the economy is coming back.  This is where Creekside Systems is here to help.

Information technology is expensive, but it does not have to be as expensive as it once was.  Small businesses need email accounts, but a local email server is a waste of resources.  Small businesses need the ability to share files, but do they need a file server in house?  Probably not.  How about tech support and maintenance?  Having a dedicated staff person is expensive, but having nothing can be more expensive…and dangerous.  Outsourcing all of these costs to Creekside Systems lets you keep your business trim.  It lets you concentrate on your product or service instead tech support and upkeep.

Why can we do it cheaper?  Simply put, economies of scale.  By representing dozens of firms we can maximize our resources over each.  That lets us provide tech services at a fraction of the cost of an in house provider, but also without the bulkiness and impersonality of a big firm:  we’re efficient and we’re local, the best of both worlds.  With the economy still fragile, Creekside Systems allows your firm to restore or improve your computer network piece by piece and service by service without the risk of outgrowing this still-fragile economy. That is the value and purpose of Cloud Computing.
